Johan and Henry Lippert, c.1875 - 1890
Tied double cloth coverlet of Indigo blue wool on natural white cotton.
Has the same angels holding laurel crowns seen in coverlet 14, also by the Lipperts. Features a large, leafy central medallion and thick floral and leaf border. In the centre of each side of the border there is a domed building which resembles a church or the United States Capitol building. It appears that the pattern may have been intended for a table cloth and was modified to fit a coverlet with the addition of extra material on two sides. The large central medallion would have framed a lamp placed at the centre of the table.
The Lipperts bought their equipment and patterns from the United States.Collection
