Johan and Henry Lippert, c.1875
Tied double cloth coverlet of red, light blue and brown wool bands on natural white cotton. Prominently features the eagle and sheild of the coat of arms of the United States which. Johan Lippert bought his equipment and patterns from the United States where patriotic symbols such as the eagle and sheild were popular around the centennial of independence in the 1870s. At the centre is a 16 pointed star surrounded by a floral wreath. Like others used by the Lipperts, the pattern may have been intended for a table cloth as indicated by the large central medallion and added material on two sides.Collection
