August Ploether, c.1875 - 1890
Cadmium red wool on a ground of natural white and light blue cotton. Tied double cloth.
August Ploether was a German weaver who worked in Preston, Waterloo county. He bought a wide Jacquard loom between 1865 and 1870. He had a shop in Kitchener where he sold a range of woven products including coverlets. High end items like coverlets were a small part of sales and most of the business would have been less intricate. Early coverlets were monochrome and later ones had multicolour bands.Collection
