in illuminated script in larger print is [ This Indenture], beneith is the agreement between James Rosamond the Younger and his wife Elizabeth Ann Janet Rosamond, and Bennet Rosamond for the sum of 6000.00$. This agreement was witnessed by J.A. Gemmill. The reverse side of the page has the short form mortgage information, as well as the logo for Gemmill & Macdonnell, Barristers, solicitors,, & C. Almonte.

This Indenture
made the thirteenth day of July _ one thousand eight hundred and seventy five____(in pursuance of the Act respecting Short Forms of Mortgages,)
Between James Rosamond the younger of the Village of Almonte in the county of Lanark and Province of Ontario Iron Founder__________ Hereinafter called “the Mortgagor , “ of the First Part, Eliza Annie Janet Rosamond the Wife of the said party of the First Part, made a party hereto or the purpose of barring her Dower merely, of the Second Part; and Bennet Rosamond of the Same Place Esquire_____________________________________________________
Hereinafter called “ the Mortgagee ,” of the Third Part; Witnesseth, that in consideration of Six Thousand dollars _____________________________________________________________
Of lawful money of Canada, now paid by the said Mortgagee to the said Mortgagor, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, the said Mortgagor doth Grant and Mortgage unto the said Mortgagee his heirs and assigns forever. _________________________________________
All and Singular those certain parcel[s, has been scratched out] or tract[s, has been crossed out] of Land and Premises situate, lying and being in the Village of Almonte in the county of Lanark in the Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, being composed of Village Lots numbers Twenty Three, Twenty Four, and Twenty five in Union Street Twenty six Twenty Seven, Thirty Seven and Thirty eight in Stephen Street and Thirty nine forty and forty one in Mitcheson Street all in that tract of the said village of Almonte known as ‘The Rosamond Section” as laid out by Andrew Bell Esquire Provincial Lands Surveyor a plan of which drawn by him is registered in the Registry Office for the North Riding of the county of Lanark

Provided , This Mortgage to be void on payment of Six thousand dollars__________________________________________________
Of lawful money of Canada, with interest at eight per cent. per annum, as follows: The said principal money or sum of six thousand dollars together with the interest thereon at the rate aforesaid to be paid in one year from the date hereof
~ the following blank section has been crossed out with a single line, after which the following is written ~
Together with interest at the rate aforesaid upon all arrears of Interest remaining unpaid after the maturing thereof - and Taxes and performances of Statute Labor.
The Said Mortgagor, covenants with the said Mortgagee that the said Mortgagor will pay the Mortgagee money and interest, and observe the above proviso; That the said Mortgagor hath a good title in fee simple to the said Lands: And that he hath the right to convey the said Lands to the said Mortgagee: and that on default , the said Mortgagee shall have quiet possession of the said Lands, free from all incumbrances; And that the said mortgagor will execute such further assurances of the said Lands as may be requisite; And that the said Mortgagor hath done no act to encumber the said Lands: And that the said Mortgagor will Insure the Building on the said Lands to the amount of not less than eight thousand dollars currency ; And that the said Mortgagor doth release the said Mortgagee all his claim upon the said Lands, subject to the said proviso. ____________________________
Provided, that the Mortgagee on default of payment for one _____month may on giving ten days notice _________ enter upon and lease or sell the said Lands._____
Provided that the Mortgagee may distrain for arrears of Interests Provided that in default of the payment of the Interest hereby secured, the Principal hereby secured shall become payable; Provided, that until default of payment the Mortgagor shall have quiet possession of the said Lands. ____________ And the said Eliza Annie Janet Rosamond, Wife of the said Mortgagor, hereby bars her Dower in the said Lands.

That I was present and saw them execute the within Mortgage and duplicate original thereof at the Village of Almonte in the said County of Lanark
And that I am subscribing witness to the said Mortgage and duplicate original thereof.
