Description

Moses Cherry c.1865 - 1875 Cadmium red wool on natural white cotton ground. Damask. The centre field has floral and leaf motifs between vertical zig-zag lines. Moses Cherry was trained as a weaver in Scotland or Ireland before he came to Canada. Cherry seems to have worked as a weaver between 1850 and 1880. Cherry’s work shows that he may have been influenced by damask weavers such as Withers.
