Description

Unnamed weaver from Elgin County, 1900 Indigo blue on natural white cotton ground. Tied double cloth. It has a very intricate, “busy” pattern with small details. The year 1900 and initials “H.Y.” on opposite ends of the border. There are several errors visible in the weft. One of few surviving coverlets from Elgin County, Ontario. Presumed to have been made by a German weaver who immigrated in 1871 and was recorded in the census of Rodney, Elgin County.
