Industrially made coverlet, c. 1880 - 1900
Blue wool on fine white cotton. Tied double cloth.
This is a good example of an industrially made coverlet. The body of the field is off centre which is an error that would have been corrected by a hand weaver. Coverlets began to be mass produced in the late 19th century. It has a typical late Victorian pattern with floral, geometric, diamond and leaf motifs.Collection
