Scope and Content

Single large sheet of paper folded to make a booklet of pages each approx. legal paper size. These pages are off white, yellow with age. The face of this document reads " This Indeture " in printed gothic script. Many of the words that follow are typed in black, others are hand written in black. A transcription follows. There are 2 parallel lines running around the margins of this page. a single set runs about 1cm from the edge of the paper all the way around. 2 lines run together alone the spine of the booklet. these lines are a pinky-red. The internal pages of this booklet contain more printed and typed information in black, as well as signatures and two red seals. The transcription will outline the details but this is a contract for land between John Rosamond and DG MacDonell and his wife Edith MacDonell . This contract is dated from Oct 5 1888 and has been signed by al parties. The back side of this document contains registry certification and pertinant details of the deed, as well as the logo for MacDonell & Skinner Barristers, & C., Almonte Ont. Transcription is as follows: 2014.07.61 - PROOFED This Indenture made the fifth day of October one thousand eight hundred and eighty eight In pursuance of the Act Respecting Short forms of Conveyances Between D. G. Macdonell of Almonte Barrister Of the first part Edith MacDonell his wife of the second part and John M Rosamond of the same place Book Keeper of the third part Witnesseth that in consideration of one [crossed out] two thousand and fifty Dollars Of lawful money of Canada now paid by the said party of the third part to the said party of the first part (receipt whereof is hereby by him acknowledged) he the said party of the first part doth grant unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns FOR EVER : ALL and Singular, those certain parcels or tracts of land and premises situate lying and being in the town of almonte being lots seventy one and seventy two on Cameron Street ~ continued on second page ~ To have and to old unto the said party of the third part, his heirs and assigns , to and for his and their sole and only use forever, subject nevertheless to the reservations, limitations , provisoes and conditions expressed in the original Grant thereof from the Crown. ~ Continued on third page ~ The Said party of the first part covenants with the said party of the third part that he has the right to convey the said land to the said party of the third part, notwithstanding any act of the said party of the first part: And that the said party of the third part shall have quiet possession of the said lands [several words have been scratched out] ; And that the said party of the first part will execute such further assurances of the said land as may be requisite; [the remaining sentence has been scratched out] And the said party of the first part releases to the said party of the third part all his claims upon the land And the said party of the second bars her dower in said lands In Witness Whereof the said parties hereto have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written.
