Scope and Content

3 letter size papers emblazed with the logo of the Peterborough Canoe Co on the center of the top. Logo depicts individuals canoeing on a river (Otonobee River perhaps). These three letters have been typed in blue ink and are correspondence between the Company and A.M. Greig about the purchase of a skiff (model no 503). Greig, C/o Greig & Greig, Almonte, Ont. Dear Sir, -- We are in receipt of yours of the 17th inst and send you a copy of our latest catalogue. The no. 503 skiff with ribs 2 ½ “ centres is finished like the cut of the No. 502 ½ skiff , cedar , with ribs 2 ½ ‘ centres shown opposite page 20 of catalogue. These skiffs are finished with two cane rowing seats and one chair in stern as shown in cut. As the decks in these skiffs are long there is not room for another seat, in the bow the same as in the skiffs with shorter decks. We will give you a pair of straight oars instead of spoon oars and as the straight oars are cheaper than spoon oars we will give you an extra pair of rowlocks. They are all fitted with two places to row. We do not think you will want cushions on these cane seats or on the chair seat as it is cane bottom too. It takes about four yards of carpet for a carpet for the skiff and it is worth about , $ 1.00 or 1.25 a yard. If you want the cushions they will cost you about $3.00 each for good plush cushions . Greig, Co Greig & Greig, Almonte, ONT. Dear Sir, -- We are in receipt of yours of the 28th inst and note contents. I find that we have a No. 503 with ribs 2 ½” centres just finished in oil and we can change the seats for you and put you in four seats , only it will make the seats a little closer. The decks in the 2 ½ “ centres are about 9” longer at each end then in the commoner skiffs with ribs 4 “ centres but we can fix this for you if you wish and either put a plain board seat in the bow, narrow, or put a seat and put another cane chair, so that you will have it with two cane chairs. The extra cane chair will cost you $3.50 extra if this will do let us know at once. We shipped a couple of very pretty skiffs to Almonte a day or two ago. The only difference we would make if we were building another would be to make the decks shorter. We will have it ready for you and let you know when ready to ship.
