Marie moved to Almonte in 1954, her husband was John Dunn who did a lot of research on Almonte. She described shopping at the mill in its warehouse, Zephyr Textiles, and quilting at the continuing learning program in the 1970s, where the Almonte Crazy Quilters was founded. She talked about the wartime boom and her husband’s family history in the town. She told a story of the Mexican ambassador (in 2011?) falling in water and needing a new suit.
Marie Dunn was born in Kemptville. She moved to Almonte with her husband in 1954. Her husband John Dunn was known as a historian of Almonte history. Mary worked as a nurse in the old Rosamond Memorial Hospital as well as the new hospital built in 1961. She gave birth to 4 of her own children in the old hospital. She was a customer of the mill and went there to buy wool. Marie was passionate about quilting which she picked up from her mother and she founded the Almonte Crazy Quilters Club after she retired in 1989. She also talked about how John tried to preserve as much of the machinery as possible when the mill shut down.
