Said that when he started it was the decline of the textile industry. He was introcuded to the textile industry by his father who worked in the Thoburn mill. In 1953 Bill was hired at the Rosamond mill in Almonte and worked there for 3 months before moving to the Rosamond's mill in Grand-Mere, Quebec. He worked quality control in management, would look for imperfections in production as well as worker performance. There were different fabrics produced in different mills, Rosamond’s made worsted yarn. Bill has an educational background in textiles. He studied textile engineering at university in Philadelphia and graduated with a bachelor of science. He said communication was maintained between workers and management. The mill was a loud work environment that impacted his hearing later in life. He talked about the danger of the carding machine and an incident where a worker got his arm stuck in it. Bill was also the superindendent of the Kenwood plant in Arnprior and began working for the Ontario government at age 45.
