VIDEO INTERVIEW Interviewer: Marilyn Snedden Interview Date: June 25, 2013 Marlene was a trained nurse and she talked about community life in Almonte. The closest contact to the mill she had was buying her yarn there and relatives of her husband worked at the mill. When she received a tour, she saw the dye house and thought she definitely wouldn’t want to work there. Marlene was born in Cornwall, England. She attended an all girls school and then went to Plymouth Technical College to study for the nursing program. She came to canada with a friend after they studied in college with some young women from Wakefield, Quebec who found them jobs in the Almonte hospital. She met her husband when the head nurse of the hospital set her up on a date with him. Marlene has the scale which was used to wiegh babies in the old hospital which she aquired when the new hospital was built.
