VIDEO INTERVIEW Interviewer: Roberta Murant Interview Date: June 28, 2013 Beverly Kearns was born in Woodroffe, Ontario which has since been absorbed into Ottawa. In her interview she talked about her father who was born in Oldham, England and was sent to Canada as a child by an Anglican home for orphans after his parents died. It was common for church organizations to send orphans to settler colonies all over the British Empire. He worked on the T.A. Thompson farm when he arrived in Canada. Her parents moved to Almonte after World War One and lived in a small log cabin which still existed at the time of the interview. They moved to Ottawa around 1930 because there were more jobs available. Her father and five brothers joined the military for World War Two and her brothers were sent overseas but her father was not because he was too old. Her husband was in the airforce and she moved to Germany with him. After returning from Germany they lived in Saskatchewan for some time and then moved back to Ottawa. They bought a cottage on Clayton Lake which later became their home. In the interview she shows pictures of her dad and brothers in the war and old pictures of Almonte. Video recording available. Interviewer: Roberta Murant Beverley thinks her father worked at the mill but did not say anything else about it.
