TRANSCRIBED VIDEO INTERVIEW - video available
Interviewer: Terri Clarke
Interview Date: June 21, 2013
Evelyn Pritchard started working at the Rosamond Mill after she graduated from high school at age 18. Most of her family had worked in the mill before her. She worked on the winding machines for 5 years and left after she was married and became a mother. She worked under an overseerer named Harvey Scott who she described as a nice man from England with a risqué sense of humour. She said that many of the men who maintained the machines were from England and they had a machine shop in the basement where they made their own replacement parts. She talked about the work hours, conditions and pay at the mill.
She talked about what they did for fun including skating at the rink on Ann Street and and bowling. At one point Evelyn lived in an appartment above the bowling alley which was very noisy.
