Morning Glory CoverletEntry/Object ID
2016.08.01Description
The "Morning Glory" Coverlet was woven and designed by Ontario weaver Edward Graf on a jacquard loom. The coverlet is made up of four colours, an indigo, a light blue, a tan, and natural white cotton. The coloured fibres are wool. A signature block in the corners of the coverlet says "Morning glory" a design which Edward Graf designed and used from 1885 to 1900. Edward Graf worked out of Gasline, Humberstone township, Ontario. The coverlet came from fort Erie, and was owned by June Harkins.
"Beginning in the late 1860s, Graf wove on a wide jacquard loom acquired from the United States. It produced doublewidth coverlets without centre seams as well as figural designs which were more to the fashionable tastes of the times." Source: Jacquard coverlet with Cherubim. (n.d.).
