Doug started working at the mill when he was fifteen to sixteen years old. He described a fire that occurred. The mill made velour, cloth, and rugs. He talked about the mill working three shifts in a 24 hour operation, it dyed knitted fibers from Perth. Carl was the union president and talked about strikes. He mentioned the Appletex name change and the decline of the mills. When he worked at the mill he was in charge of knitting machines then worked in the dye house and then in finishing and he explained what the finishing machine did. He described the hot environment of the dye house and how he did not get along with his superiors. His sister worked at Zephyr Textiles and his brother worked at the dye house at the Collie Mill. He finished the interview by talking about community life and entertainment.
