TRANSCRIBED INTERVIEW - no video Interviewer: unknown Interview Date: June 25, 2013 Art Horton was born on Coleman Street on the island in Almonte. He went to St. Mary's Catholic School then Almonte High School, then he studied electrical engineering and management at Algonquin College and Carleton University. He began working maintence at the mill as a student in 1967 and a year later became a lab tech in the dye house. Art enjoyed comradery in the mill. He started working maintenance at the mill then in the dye house, he talked about fumes and the dye being dumped in the river, as well as how the dye house functioned, and that people would do piece work for extra money. He said about 300 people worked in the mill. His mother ran the mill store when it opened in the 1950s. Art also performed as a country musician for 30 years. He was in the house band for the Canadian Grill and perfomed there 6 nights per week. He performed at venues all around the Ottawa Valley. He met his wife Janet Wilson at the Richmond Inn in Richmond, Ontario in 1970. After the mill Art worked as a project manager for the electrical engineering company Canadian Marconi managing the construction of new facilities. He traveled to construction sites all over North America for work. Video recording unavailable. Interview conducted June 25, 2013
