VIDEO INTERVIEW - video available Interviewer: Marilyn Snedden Interview Date: 2013 Donald Johnson was born in the Rosamond Memorial Hospital in Almonte. He attended public school and graduated from Almonte High School. During World War Two he went to HMCS Carleton to enlist in the Navy but was denied because he was only 17 and the war was almost over. He worked at the Rosamond Mill to make money so he could afford to go to university. He says that he enjoyed his short time working at the mill and that many of his coworkers there had fought in the war. He applied to Queens University but decided not to attend when he was told that there was no available housing on campus. After this he worked in the office of his uncle's construction company in Ottawa and then went to the University of Toronto where he studied accounting. Donald worked for the Rosamond Mill after the Second World War. He worked as a finisher for two to three months. The mill made gabardine and worsted material including for uniforms. He talked about the odour and the oils in the mill from the raw woolen material. His father worked at the mill as a paymaster. He spoke about accidents at the mill and community life. No video recording was mislabelled as "Don Johnson"
