VIDEO INTERVIEW - video avaiable Interviewer: Marily Snedden Interview Date: July 9, 2013 Ed McCabe worked as a lab technician in the dye house at the Rosamond No. 1 mill between 1966 and 1969. His mother worked the carding machines in the mill before him and his grandfather, Edward Patrick McCabe worked as a weaver in the Rosamond mill for 30 years. Ed talks about the hot working conditions in the dye house and the greasy environment of the mill as well as pay and scheduling. He explained how he worked mixing dyes and inspecting sample skeins of wool. He started working in the dye house when he was around 20 years old and left to go back to school. He later worked as a teacher at St. Mary's Catholic School in Almonte. He was also a singer and performed Saturday nights at the Almonte Hotel. He also talks about what poeple did for entertainment in the 1960s including bowling, local hockey teams, dancing, the different theatres in town, and swimming in the river. old text Rosamond Mill 1966-69 Ed started working at 20 years old in the lab of the dye house.
