TRANSCRIBED INTERVIEW - no recording available Interviewer: Roberta Murant Interview Date: 2013 Ellie Reid is from Cornwall and moved to Almonte with her husband Jack in 1959. Ellie did not work in the textile industry but Jack was a manager of the dye house for Zephyr Textiles. Jack began working for Canadian Cottons in Cornwall as soon as he graduated high school. Canadian Cottons sent Jack to the Hamilton Institute of Technology to study synthetic textiles when they were new to the industry. In her interview Ellie describes the conditions of the mill house they rented when they first moved to Almonte. After living in the mill house for four years they built their own house. Jack recieved a medal for outstanding work in the field of dye technology and it application to the textile industry from Ciba which was a major dye company at the time. Ellie also discusses how Almonte, its local business and buildings have changed since she moved here. OLD TEXT Ellie’s husband Jack was the manager of the dye house at Zephyr Textiles in the 1960s; he won a medal from CABA, a large dying company, and she talked about how he would mix colours.
