TRANSCRIBED VIDEO INTERVIEW Interviewer: Marilyn Snedden Interview Date: August 13, 2013 Pat was born in Halifax and grew up in Montreal. She was a dress designer and graduated from Fashion Arts Academy in Montreal. She married in 1961 and moved to Almonte with her husband in 1965. They bought the Chapman family's house near Union Street and Queen Street and restored it. In her interview she talks extensively about the process of restoring the house, how they did it, who helped them and what they learned from the experience. She also talks about the people she has met since living in Almonte. She mentions Jack Barker who spent most of his career in the Rosamond mill and lived in their house when it was a boarding house. Jack started at the bottom and worked his way up to the top. She recounts that fire was a major concern in the town. They lived across the river from the fire station and her son loved to wach the firefighters. There was a fire siren which could heard from anywhere in town. They lived next to Aikenhead's bakery and almost lost their house when the bakery burned down. Pat remembers the firefighters helping her save as much as she could including photo albums and a piano but rain stopped the fire from spreading. Pat volunteered at the hospital for 30 years and was on the board there for 9. She did a lot of fundraising for the hospital.
