TRANSCRIBED INTERVIEW - no video Interviewer: Roberta Murant Interview Date: 2013 Rick was born and raised in Almonte. His father worked for Metcalf's Dairy and he remembers helping him deliver milk by horse and buggy. His first job was at Steenbakers Lumber in Bells Corners. He worked at the lumber yard for 2 monthes before starting at the Collie mill in Almonte. He worked in the Collie Mill as a bobbin boy. In the interview he talks about what daily life was like as a bobbin boy including their tasks and responsibilities and what they would do for lunch. He explained how the Collie mill's main product at the time was cotton that they would spin and then send to the Appleton mill where it was used to make fabric and garments. He talks about the fire which desroyed the Collie mill just before he was supposed to be promoted. He also talks about what people did for entertainment like bowling and going to the beach. Rick's grandfather lived near the beach and was the caretaker of it for 25 years. He talked about how the area around the beach flooded often and he could canoe around the fairgrounds when the water was high.
