/ FABRIC STRUCTURE.
Textile Industries. Second Year Ordinary &
First Year Higher .
I Tuesday, 20th June, 1939- 9:30 a.m"- 12o30 p.m.
Candidates are required to attempt not more than SIX questions to include Question 11.
Questions:
1. Give suitable weaves, drafts and weaving particulars for
the following cloths
(a) Cafe table cloths. (b) Hand towels. (c) Coat lining.
2. Point out the advantages of combining colour and weave,
in. woven, textile fabrics, What change in the style of loom will be required? Show colour plans for different arrangements of warping and checking of any suitable standard weave. State the class of fabrics that are ornamented in thia manner, and give weaving particulars.
3. Give a list of the standard classes of shirting and
point out ths difference in the cloth construction of each type. State reasons for the differences in the character of each type of shirting. Make a sketch for any one and indicate a condensed repeat on design paper and also the draft and weaving particulars.
4. Compare a pique with a Bodford cord weave and. giv© a
design, draft, and section of each structure. Explain hoy a plain pique structure can be changed into a waved pique. From condensed design show the full design for a waved pique o
5. State the various applications for extra warp or weft
figuring in textile fabrics. Under what circumstances will extra warp be used In preference to extra weft. Show on design paper the full design for a small spot effect woven with extra material.
6. Explain in detail the loom equipment required, for
weaving any one of the following quiltings - Repp, 'toilet, patent satin, Marseilles.
