Candidates are required to attempt not more than SIX questions
Questions:
x. Mention the systems of preparing cotton for the comber.
Compare these systems and state which, in your opinion, produces the better lap. How is poor preparation likely to affect the combing?
2. State the usv.al number of doublings at the draw frare
stage in the treatment of short, medium, and long stapled cottons respectively. What would be the result of reducing this number? Make a sectional sketch to show the passage of cotton through a drawing frame.
3. Sketch the arrangement of bobbins in a roving frame
creel, showing the passage of the ends to the rollers and how the bobbins are combined. Show, also by sketch, how the roving is threaded through the flyer# How do you account for the fact that an increase of the twist per inch is obtained at the expense of the production rate?
4. Explain how twisting and carriage gain are utilised in
the mule to obtain an improvement in the regularity of the yarn. Distinguish between gain and jacking. When is jacking used and when is the gain positive and negative? Sketch the positions of the fallers during spinning and winding respectively.Collection
