Contract for a new mill costing $29387.02. There is a note at the bottom from Andrew Bell, who is the architect, explaining that the finishing of the building should cost $485 but they are not certain yet. 2013.57.04 Transcription Jan , 21 1867 New Mill Contract 26,500.00 Measurement work - Masonry + excavating 2,367.02 Additional work, less deductions (Probably any outside) 420.00 ________________ $29,387.02 ________________ Paid to date $ 24791.97 Retain for finishing 485.00 Bal per centage 3890.05 Bal. Over last estimate __________ 220.00 _________ $29387.02 Note -- it is not at all likely that the finishing of the buildings will cost as much as $ 485, but as there is an uncertainty as to what part of the brick work to the upper story will give out and have to be rebuilt, how much of the whitewashing will be taken of with the frost, how much of the painting in upper part of towers will have to be replaced + C, + C -- Those had to put it at that figure -- the Additional work, of course, I cannot estimate exactly until I know what part of the work yet to be finished is to be aft under --- Andrew Bell Archt $ 3500 29 459505 [side 2] Mr Wilson Contract Estimates of work To be done to complete the building Jan 1867
