The document shows that Andrew Bell was from Almonte, Ontario and his application to be a member of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers was approved April 1902. As explained in the application, Andrew Bell was born in Toronto, in 1835. He was educated at Queen's University in Kingston, graduating with a B.A. in 1853. He had various careers, including draftsman, transitman and private engineering work including plans for large woolen mills in Almonte and Cornwall. Mountain, Ottawa , Ont- Ernest Marceau, Montreal - The PARTICULAR ATTENTION of Candidates is requested to the following PROVISIONS of the CONSTITUTION : 7. Every Candidate for election as Member must be at least 30 years of age, and must have been engaged in some branch of engineering for at least IO years, which period may include apprenticeship or pupilage in a qualified Engineer's office, or a term of instruction in some School of Engineering recognized by the Council. The term of ten years will be reduced to eight years in the case of any Candidate who has graduated with honours in his Engineering Course. In every case the Candidate must have had responsible charge of work for at least five years, and this not merely as a skilled workman, but as an Engineer qualified to design and direct engineering works. 8. Every Candidate for election as Associate-Member must have been engaged in some branch of Engineering for at least five years, which period may include appren-ticeship or pupilage in a qualified Engineer's office, ora term of instruction in some School of Engineering recognized by the Council. In every case the Candidate must have held a position of professional responsibility for at-least two yeais. 9. Every Candidate for election as Associate shall be one who is not a Civil Engineer by profession, but whose pursuits, scientific acquirements, or practical experience qualify him to co-operate with Engineers in the advancement of professional knowledge. 10. Every Candidate for election as Student must be at least sixteen years of age, and must present a certificate of having successfully passed an examination equivalent to the final examination of a High School, or the matriculation examination of an Arts or Science course, and must be pursuing a recognized course of instruction in some branch of Engineciing, or be receiving n practical training in the profession. He shall not remain in the class of students more than nine years. N.
