Object is a folded rectangular paper quit claim deed between William Anderson, James Reid the Younger and John McIntosh. On the back of the document is a stamp from the Registry Office for the North Riding of the county of Lanark and signed by "Menzies". The paper is machine woven and the media is black and red ink, both handwritten and typewritten, which covers approximately 50% of the paper's surface. The object is 39cm long and 48cm wide when fully unfolded.
Transcription of artifact is as follows:
This Indenture,
Made (in duplicate,) the Seventh day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy six
Between William Anderson and James Reid the younger, both of the village of Almonte in the County of Lanark and Province of Ontario, Hardware merchants, carrying on business as such in the said village of Almonte under the name style and firm of “Anderson & Reid” Of the first part; John McIntosh, of the township of Ramsay in the county and Province aforesaid, yeoman of the second part;
Witnesseth, that the said party of the first part, for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and thirty three dollars and sixty cents of lawful money of Canada, to them in hand paid by the said party of the second part, at or before the sealing and delivery of these Presents, (the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged,) Have Granted, released and quitted claim, and by these Present Do - Grant, Release and Quit Claim unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns, All their estate, right, title, interest, claim and demand whatsoever, both at law and in equity or otherwise howsoever, and whether in possession or expectancy, of, in, to or out of All and Singular those certain parcels or tracts of land and premises situate, lying and being in the village of Almonte in the County of Lanark and Province of Ontario being composed of lots numbers twenty six, twenty seven, thirty seven and thirty eight on Stephen street twenty three twenty four and twenty five on Union Street and thirty nine, forty and forty one on mitcheson street all in the “Rosamond section” of the said village of Almonte.

Together with the appurtenances thereto belonging or appertaining ; To Have and to Hold the aforesaid land and premises, with all and singular the appurtenances thereto belonging or appertaining, unto and to the use of the said party of the second part [“their” is crossed out] his heirs and assigns, FOR EVER ; Subject, nevertheless, to the reservations, limitations, provisoes and conditions expressed in the original Grant thereof from the Crown :

That I was personally present and did see the within Instrument and duplicate duly signed, sealed and executed by William Anderson and James Reid [spelling uncertain] The Younger the parties thereto.
That the said Instrument and Duplicate were executed at the village of Almonte in the county of Lanark
That I know the said parties
That I am a subscribing witness to the said Instrument and Duplicate.
