Object is a rectangular paper Quit Claim Deed between John McIntosh and John Gemmill, witnessed by Joseph Jamieson. There is a blue stamp on the back marking it as having been registered in the Registry Office for the North Riding of the County of Lanark. The paper is machine woven, and the media is black ink handwriting which covers approximately 50% of the object's surface. There are two pages, joined together at the top left corner by an unknown adhesive.
Transcription of artifact is as follows:
This Deed made under the provisions of the Insolvent Act of 1875, the second day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy six
Between John Alexander Gemmill of the village of Almonte in the County of Lanark and Province of Ontario, Esquire, in his capacity of Assignee of the estate and effects of James Rosamond, the younger, of the said village of Almonte, Iron Founder and Machinist, insolvent under a deed of assigment executed on the twenty nineth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy fice at the Village of Almonte, aforesaid, and of a resolution passed at a meeting of creditors of the said Insolvent duly called pursuant to the said act and held at the said village of Almonte on the twenty fifth day of October one thousand eight hundred and seventy five whereby the said John Alexander Gemmill was duly appointed assignee to the said estate of the one part, and John McIntosh of the Township of Ramsay in the said County of Lanark, Esquire, of the other Part, Witnesseth: that he the said John Alexander Gemmill in his said capacity, hath caused the sale of the real estate hereinafter mentioned to be advertised as required by law and hath adjudged and doth hereby grant, bargain, sell and confirm the same, to wit: unto the said John McIntosh his heirs and assigns forever, all the rights and interests in all and singular those certain parcels or tracts of land and premises situate lying and being in the village of Almonte in the County of Lanark and Province of Ontario being composed of village Lots numbers twenty six, twenty seven, thirty seven, and thirty eight, on stephen street

Twenty three, twenty four, and twenty five on Union Street, and thirty nine, forty and forty one on Mitcheson Street all in the Rosamond Section of the said village of Almonte : To Have and To Hold the same, with the appurtenances thereof unto the said John McIntosh, his heirs and assigns forever. The said sale is so made for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and twenty dollars of lawful money of Canada : and the said lands and premises are sold subject to the mortgages outstanding against the same and the registered lieus

1 That my name place of residence and addition occupation or calling are above truly set forth in full
2 That I know the within named John Alexander Gemmill one of the parties thereto
3 That I was personally present and saw him execute the annexed Deed and duplicate original thereof at the village of Almonte in the said County of Lanark
4 And that I am a subscribing witness to the said Deed and duplicate original thereof
