Rectangular paper Deed of Land between John McIntosh, Janet McIntosh and Joseph Jamieson, and witnessed by Walton Lawson, dated April 1st 1884. There is a blue stamp on the back identifying it as having been registered at the Registtry Office for the North Riding of the County of Lanark. There are three red seals inside the document. The paper itself is machine woven, while the media is black and red ink which covers approximately 30% of the surface of the paper. The object is 38cm long and 51cm wide when unfolded.
Transcription of artifact is as follows:
This Indenture
Made (in duplicate) the first day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty four In pursuance of the Act respecting short forms of conveyances :
Between John McIntosh of the town of Almonte in the County of Lanark and Province of Ontario Gentleman of the First Part, Janet McIntosh wife of the said party of the first part of the Second Part, and Joseph Jamieson of the same place Esquire of the Third Part ;
Witnesseth, that in consideration of an understanding to pay the mortgage hereinafter mentioned and of the sum of two thousand dollars of lawful money of Canada, now paid by the said party of the third part, to the said party of the first part, (the receipt whereof is hereby by him acknowledged,) he the said party of the first part Doth Grant unto the said party of the third part his heirs and assigns, for ever :
All and Singular those certain parcels or tracts of land and premises, situate lying and being in the town of Almonte in the County of Lanark and Province of Ontario Being composed of town lots numbers twenty-six, twenty-seven, thirty seven and thirty-eight on Stephen Street, thirty nine forty and forty-one on Mitcheson Street and twenty three twenty four and twenty five on Union Street in the “Rosamond Section” of the said Town of Almonte. Subject however to the payments conditions and agreements contained in a certain mortgage made by the said John McIntosh to the Landed Canada Credit Company which said mortgage the said party of the third part hereby undertakes to pay satisfy and discharge
To have and to hold unto the said party of th third part his heirs and assigns to and for his and their sole and only use for ever Subject nevertheless, to the reservations, limitations, provisoes, and conditions expressed in the original Grant thereof from the Crown.

Received on the day of the date of this Indenture from the said party of the third part the sum of two thousand dollars
Witness W. Lawson John McIntosh
The said party of the first part Covenants with said party of the thirty part That he hath the right to convey the said lands to the said party of the third part notwithstanding any act of the said party of the first part.
And that the said party of the third part shall have quiet possession of the said lands, free from all encumbrances, except as aforesaid
And the said party of the first part Covenants with the said party of the third part that he hath done no act to encumber the said lands, except as aforesaid
And the said party of the first part Released to the said party of the third part All his Claims upon the said lands.
And the said Janet McIntosh wife of the said party of the first part hereby bars her Dower in the said lands.
In Witness whereof, the said parties hereto have hereunto set their Hands and Seals

That the said Instrument and Duplicate were executed at the said town of Almonte
That I know the said parties
That I am a subscribing witness to the said Instrument and Duplicate.
