Scope and Content

Object is a rectangular paper advertisement for a mortgage sale of a roller flour mill conducted by Greig & Greig with the heading "MORTGAGE SALE" at the top. The paper itself is machine woven while the media is black ink in the form of printed text which covers approximately 70% of the surface of the paper. The object is 43cm wide and 62cm long when unfolded. Transcription of artifact is as follows: MORTGAGE SALE OF A VALUABLE ROLLER FLOUR MILL AND WATER POWER. There will be offered for sale by Public Auction at the Law Office of the undersigned, in the Town of Almonte, In the County of Lanark, on TUESDAY, The 14th day of December, A.D. 1909, At Two o’clock in the Afternoon, under the Power of Sale contained in a certain Mortgage, which will be produced at the time of sale, the following lands, viz.: All that parcel of land situate in the Township of Ramsay, in the County of Lanark, containing by admeasurement Half an Acre Thirty-two Perches, be the same more or less, being an Island within the waters of the Mississippi River, and composed of a part of the Rear or North-East Half of Lot Number Twenty-five, in the Ninth Concession of the said Township of Ramsay, otherwise described the Southernmost Island, a line projected from a point in the Westerly boundary Seventeen chains from the centre of the said Ninth concession at right angles the distance of Eight chains, would intersect the upper end of said Island, together with the right to extend a dam across the channel on the North side of said Island, either above or below the cataract, as may be found most convenient, and attach said dam to an Island on the opposite side, likewise to extend a dam from the last mentioned Island to a small Island above for the purpose of securing a constant supply of water, and also to extend a bridge to cross the channel West of said Island and attach the same to the mainland, with egress and regress by two suitable highways, the one to lead to the Bridge across the Mississippi River and the other to pass through in a suitable place to the Tenth Concession Line, subject to the reservations contained in a Conveyance of the said lands from the late Alexander Snedden to the late Robert Henderson, unless the monies secured by the said Mortgage are sooner paid. There is erected on said premises a Roller Flour Mill, equipped with first-class machinery in good running order and driven by water power. There are also storehouses, sheds, stable and dwelling house on the premises. The water power is one of the best on the Mississippi River. The Mill is situated in a good agricultural country, has a capacity of from 100 to 125 barrels per day, is convenient to the main transcontinental line of the Canadian Pacific Railway Company, and has a large local and shipping business.
