Object is a rectangular paper Quit Claim Deed between James Dunlop Gemmill and John McIntosh, dated July 17th 1876. There is a single blue seal inside the document, and there is a blue stamp inside the document identifying it as having been registered in the Registry Office for the North Riding of the County of Lanark. The paper itself is machine woven, while the media is black and red ink in the form of printed and handwritten text which covers approximately 40% of the paper's surface. The object is 33.5cm long and 41.5cm wide when unfolded.
The following is a transcription of the artifact:
QUIT CLAIM DEED. COPP, CLARK & Co., Colborne Street, Toronto.
This Indenture, made in duplicate the seventeenth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy six
Between James Dunlop Gemmill of the village of Almonte in the County of Lanark and Province of Ontario, Esquire, of the First Part, and
John McIntosh of the Township of Ramsay in the said County of Lanark, Yeoman, of the Second Part:
Witnesseth, that the said party of the First Part, for an in consideration of the sum of one dollar of lawful money of Canada, to him in hand paid by the said party of the Second Part, at or before the sealing and delivery of these Presents (the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged), Hath granted, released, and quitted claim, and by these Presents Doth grant release, and Quit Claim unto the said party of the Second Part his heirs and assigns, All his estate, right, title, interest, claim and demand whatsoever, both at Law and in Equity or otherwise howsoever and whether in possession or expectancy of in to or out of All and Singular those certain parcels or tracts of land and premises situate lying and being in the village of Almonte

In the County of Lanark and Province of Ontario Being Composed of village Lots numbers twenty six, twenty seven, thirty seven and thirty eight on Stephen Street, twenty three twenty four and twenty five on Union Street and Thirty nine, forty and forty one on Mitcheson Street, all in the Rosamond Section of the said village of Almonte
Together with all the appurtenances thereto belonging or appertaining, To have and to hold the aforesaid lands and premises, with all and singular the appurtenances thereto belonging or appertaining, Unto and to the use of the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns FOR EVER: Subject to the reservations, limitations, provisoes and conditions expressed in the original grant from the Crown.
In Witness whereof, the said parties to these Presents have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written.

Received, on the day and year first above written, from the said John McIntosh, the party of the second part:

That I know the said party
That I am a subscribing witness to the said Instrument and Duplicate.
