Notes: This item was view by Dr. Paul Larose (see Contacts) Dr. Larose did not recognize the instrument, but suggested that it could have been designed to determine the weight per unit area of woven fabrics, which we often specify in terms such as 'ounces per square yard'. The different sizes might have been chosen simply to make the final calculations simple.
