Two razor blades are attached (unable to read the make on one of the blades-made in Sheffield, England) which can be moved up and down.
This items was reviewed by Dr. Larose (see biography) during interview on July 15th, 1985; This device was designed to give information on 'yarn count'. Yarn count specifies the size of yarn (whose diameter and density tends to vary somewhat along its length) in either weight per unit length, or length of a given weight. The instrument allows an exactly measured length of yarn to be cut, between the clamps, and then weighed. With weight and length accurately known, any desired count can be calculated.Collection
