Description

Densometer SN 473255 and SN 473255 (W. & E. Gurley, Troy, N.Y.) A densometer is used to measure the porosity of materials, or how permeable the material is to substances. It measures the time it takes to force a known volume of air through one square inch of material. A densometer is often used with another instrument called a porosimeter, to measure porosity, air permeability or air resistance of fabric. Consists of 3 parts: a) Densometer. Long narrow silver piece on top. Silver piece on bottom which is connected to the black base. A notice/caution tag is attached. (photos 1-5) b) Burgundy-coloured box of additional discs. Box measures 7 by 20 cm long and 5 cm high, made of cardboard, burgundy on the outside and off white on the interior. (photo 6) There is a red and white adhesive label stuck to the lid of the box, with handwritten text reading: [ Orifice Plates / for Gurley Densometer ] One disc is in its proper place on the Densometer, an additional 4 discs are stored in box. Also in the box are 2 small off white envelopes with handwritten text in black ink. There are 2 discs inside each envelope. Each disc measures 6 cm in diameter, but each one has different individual characteristics such as various grooves, rubber lining, holes, etc. c) A replacement aluminum tube, identical to the one currently in the densometer.
