TO THE EMPLOYEES OF THE ALMONTE DIVISION OF ZEPHYR TEXTILES COMPANY LIMITED
Dear
to inform you that after careful evaluation, I have concluded that I will be forced to close our Almonte operation prior to the year end 1977.
As many of you know, I had hoped to continue our operation and perhaps even expand certain aspects of it. Unfortunately, the market for dyed yarns has been very poor during the last few years, and took a turn for the worse in the month of August of this year. The continued financial losses generated by our Almonte operation has been considerably increased since August and is beginning to seriously affect the strength of the entire company. As a result, I have no option at this time but to close the factory. Our Ormstown factory will continue to operate normally, and in the future our dyeing will be undertaken by Hubbard Dyers of Montreal.
The factory will be closed at the earliest in 8 weeks time, at which time your employment will be terminated. Production in the meantime will continue at more or less the same level as it is presently. I hope that I will.be able to count on your cooperation during these remaining difficult weeks.
This announcement will be given today to the media and other pertinent government departments and agencies. I have asked Messrs Reid and Boise in conjunction with Canada Manpower to coordinate our efforts to help you relocate. Please contact your supervisor if you wish any additional information on this or any other subject.
