136 ChineseDescription
Pair of Chinese dragon rank badges (buzi), circa 1850, executed in finely woven silk tapestry using the kesi (kossu) technique. Each badge features a frontal five-clawed golden dragon with outstretched limbs, surrounded by stylized clouds, flames, floral motifs, and auspicious symbols against a dark blue ground. The dragon is positioned above turbulent waves and multicolored diagonal bands representing water, with intricate detailing in shades of gold, blue, cream, coral, and green. A geometric fretwork border encloses the composition. The front badge is divided vertically to accommodate the fastening of a court robe, while the corresponding back badge is woven as a continuous panel. Framed for display.Acquisition
