Description

Chinese embroidered ceremonial collar, 19th century, featuring a layered lotus motif with overlapping, scalloped silk petals in shades of pale green, coral pink, and blue-green. The lower tier is decorated with gold brocade petals accented with openwork detailing. An orange silk neckband is finely embroidered with multicolored floral and scrolling motifs, framed by black silk trim. The dimensional, petal-like construction evokes the form of a blooming lotus flower, a traditional Chinese symbol of purity and harmony.
