Description

Possibly late Qing Dynasty informal robe of deep navy blue kossu (kesi) silk tapestry, decorated with large circular medallions containing densely arranged flowers, bats, and stylized clouds in shades of coral, ivory, pale blue, green, and gold. The robe features wide, straight sleeves, a central front closure, and a gently flared silhouette. Elaborate bands of multicolored diagonal stripes representing waves rise from the hem and sleeve cuffs, accented by stylized mountains, rolling waves, and cloud motifs. The richly detailed floral roundels and auspicious imagery reflect traditional Chinese symbolism, with bats representing happiness and good fortune, flowers suggesting prosperity and beauty, and clouds evoking celestial blessings.
