Chinese peacock feather plume accompanied by its original elongated storage case covered in faded blue fabric. The plume features a dense arrangement of dark peacock feathers with a prominent iridescent eye in shades of turquoise, cobalt blue, green, and bronze, gathered into a narrow stem wrapped in ivory silk thread. The fitted case has rounded ends and a hinged lid secured by blue fabric loops and pale toggle fastenings. Traditionally worn on Qing Dynasty official court hats, peacock feather plumes were prestigious imperial distinctions awarded for meritorious service. The protective case was designed to preserve the delicate feathers when not in use.
