Original domed basketry hat box covered in blue cotton, made to house the accompanying c. 1880 Chinese man’s summer court hat (#40A). Constructed in a rounded, fitted form with a raised cylindrical compartment at the crown and small cord ties spaced around the perimeter. The blue textile covering displays age-related fading, discoloration, and surface wear, consistent with its historic use and age. SAME AS 297??
