Description

An elaborate Chinese decorative bed hanging featuring a colorful embroidered silk ornament of architectural form, with a small seated figure nestled within an arched opening. The upper section is embellished with floral embroidery in shades of blue, green, pink, and gold, while the central body features a cream-colored lattice pattern bordered by richly embroidered cobalt-blue and magenta panels with scrolling and floral motifs. Decorative side elements support long silk tassels in vibrant rose pink and pale sage green, accented with wrapped silk beads and small metallic ornaments. A shorter deep-purple tassel hangs from the center, completing the symmetrical composition. Such ornamental hangings were traditionally suspended from beds, canopies, or interior furnishings, serving both decorative and auspicious purposes. Their elaborate embroidery, colorful silk tassels, and symbolic imagery reflected wishes for happiness, prosperity, and protection within the household.
