This is the Desert Power and Water Co. Building nearing completion of construction in 1908-09. It cost $250,000 to build including 2 steam-boilers fired with oil, the electric generating machinery and transformers. This plant supplied electric energy to Kingman, Oatman, Gold Road, and Chloride until about1935 when power lines brought electric service from Boulder Dam, now Hoover Dam. At a later date, before 1916, an addition was added to the west side of the above building with additional steam boilers and generators increasing the electric energy, doubled to 5000 horsepower.....Informant: Glenn JohnsonCollection
