During the construction of the eastbound track (double track Los Angeles to Chicago) of the AT & SF railway, it was necessary to "coyote" placing a charge of dynamite and black powder for considerable distance to break rock off the cliff in Kingman Canyon at the area to the left (east side of what is now the Kingman sewer settling ponds.) This blast was planned and successfully done without damage to existing roadway below - the national Old Trails Highway - and also the existing east-west single track railway. The photos are by McClure, who at that time was Kingman's only photographer. The blast was the largest set off by the contractor during the construction of the double track through Mohave County. These photos were sent to the LA Times and published in that newspaper as a newsworthy item and then returned to the sender, Glenn H. Johnson.Other Names and Numbers
