Scope and Content

A collection of 14 hand-painted signs and one printed poster illustrating activities of the American Women's Voluntary Services (AWVS) Montauk Unit. Most of the signage was painted for a benefit, advertising games an events. The AWVS trained and organized women volunteers who provided support services during World War II. AWVS was founded in 1940 and disbanded in 1944. Hand-pained on illustration board.
