Scope and Content

Ray Cappiello's digital photograph collection includes four photographs depicting various views of Maisonettes Motel (now Ocean End), Montauk's first motel built in the early 1950s by Sam and Bea Cox. An aerial from the 1950s shows a birds-eye perspective of the motel as the ocean encroached on the shoreline.

Raymond M. Cappiello (1949-2017) was the owner of Manucci's and the Shark Shack restaurants in Montauk, New York. His first restaurant, the Shark Shack opened in 2000, four years later he opened Manucci's restaurant at the Montauk Manor, which later relocated to Kenny's Tipperary Inn on West Lake Drive. He was a former treasurer of the Montauk Chamber of Commerce and a member of St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church. He and his wife bought a condo at Ocean End in 1992, after he retired from the restaurant business in 2014 he became the property manager at Ocean End.
