Eugene Beckwith (1925–2021) grew up in the Montauk Fishing Village on Fort Pond Bay. He was a Navy veteran and part of the D-Day invasion of Normandy during World War II. After discharge, Eugene returned to Montauk and worked as commercial fisherman, mechanic at Marshall and Sons, and later for 21 years at the New York State Parks Department at Montauk Downs. He was a Montauk Fire Department Commissioner, member of the Montauk Community Church, and the Montauk Sailing Club.
