ARC.1467Scope and Content
This collection comprises two altered account books embellished with pencil sketches, poetry, and newspaper clippings. The first, an account book, for mill grinding services (presumedly Hook Mill East Hampton) and goods dating 1875–1893, was altered and signed by a Mrs. Nancie M. Sunrence(sp?), East Hampton, LI, August 21st, 1889. The second book appears to previously have been a ship’s log, with two original pages (not pasted over with clippings) documenting “A List of Ships Spoken on Board Barque” and “Numbers of Whales Seen on Board Barque.” The whale log includes species and latitude and longitude coordinates. The clippings, dating from the late 1880s, document news local to East Hampton and many articles about the assignation of James King of William, a California newspaper editor.Archive Details
