Capt. Ralph Pitts Fishing SlidesEntry/Object ID
ARC.1787Scope and Content
A collection of 113 35-mm color slide scans documenting fishing activities of Captain Ralph Pitts of Montauk. The slides depict commercial and charter boat fishing, dock life, family life, and other vessels on Lake Montauk. Some of the photographs are from the 1950s showing fishermen with their catch in front of the Montauk Yacht Club sign where Pitts docked his boat from 1945 onward. Pitts started fishing in Montauk professionally in 1940 from a 26-foot Jersey Skiff docked at the town dock on Star Island. He moved to the Montauk Yacht Club in 1945 when he got a second boat. He fished during the winter and ran charters during the summer. The slides additionally show a fishing trip to Bimini. All of the people, dates, and events in the slides came to the archives unidentified. To help us with the photograph captions, please contact archives@montauklibrary.org.Archive Details
