Scope and Content

Eleven digital photographs documenting the Montauk Community Church in the late 1960s, including the groundbreaking and dedication ceremonies for the new wing built in 1968. Reverend Howard Friend is pictured with Richard Webb, the architect, designer, and founding member of the Montauk Community Chruch when it was constructed in 1929. Additional photographs include Perry Duryea, Jr. with Rev. Howard Friend and Rev. Robert Adams's congregation.

Howard Friend moved to Montauk in 1965, when he was 25 years old. He graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary. He worked at the Montauk Community Church from 1965–1970. In that time, him and his wife Betsy founded a vibrant youth group and nursery school.
