Context

The East State Street School building was built in 1901 to house the city's youngest elementary school students. This photograph was taken on the lawn of the school looking easterly up East State Street. The back of the card says "Chester Brear's school picture, 1 & 2 [1st and 2nd grades], East State St School." Chester Coolidge Brear was born on February 20, 1924. He would have been in the 1st or 2nd grade in 1930-1932.
